I’d argue those things are good things for the game by themselves but they also make seasons somewhat irrelevant. Even if I made a new one, I could have leveled it so fast. I made one monk in D3 and i just switched to a different set and it was totally different. You are completely or somewhat stuck with what you build. Alts do not have massive power boost by paragon levels. What is the common theme there? Leveling takes time. I could start up D2 and play a build I’d never played before even 20 years later (even though it did have ladder resets I never played online until about ten years ago). I still play Torchlight 2, item system is not good but the skills are and I could still do something different in that game. Grim Dawn has good skill system and pretty good item system and I’ve played that for over a thousand hours and haven’t made half the builds I want to. Its needs a good character building system. This genre is supposed to be about making different characters but the season idea is not necessary to do that. I’m quoting you but responding to the several people who have expressed similar sentiments. The way the games (that are currently active) in the genre are structured so that it doesn’t take too too long of a time to reach a pretty hefty level of power so one of the only ways to keep things fresh and entice new players to join in or old players to return is to have these resets and seasonal incentives.
